In a recent crackdown, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken action against several unregistered bakeries and water-packaging companies operating without proper approval in Plateau State.
Mr. Shaba Mohammed, Director of the North Central Zone, revealed that the agency’s inspection teams discovered multiple water-packaging firms violating Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), leading to their immediate closure.
Additionally, numerous patent medicine stores were shut down for selling expired and unregistered medical products, highlighting the severity of the violations uncovered by NAFDAC.
The operations were part of NAFDAC’s routine surveillance and inspection efforts conducted in Dengi (Kanam), Wase, Yelwa Shendam, Shendam, and Namu (Qua’anpan) local government areas (LGAs) by Regulatory Officers from the North Central Zonal Office in Jos.
Mohammed underscored NAFDAC’s unwavering commitment to protecting public health by enforcing stringent regulatory measures. He emphasized the agency’s mandate to ensure that only high-quality food, drugs, and other regulated products are manufactured, distributed, and consumed across the country.
Furthermore, Mohammed urged consumers to remain vigilant and prioritize NAFDAC-registered products to safeguard their health, warning against the risks associated with uncertified goods.
He also urged individuals to report any instances of product violations, including the sale of expired or adulterated items, to the nearest NAFDAC office for prompt action.
Mohammed issued a stern warning to those involved in the production and sale of substandard products, stating that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on offenders. He advised aspiring entrepreneurs to seek guidance from NAFDAC offices regarding the proper registration procedures in accordance with approved guidelines.
The swift and decisive action taken by NAFDAC underscores the agency’s dedication to upholding regulatory standards and protecting the well-being of consumers in Plateau State and beyond.
