In a resounding call to action, alumni of Government Science School Kuru (KOSA) have been urged to play a significant role in the development of their alma mater and the surrounding community. This charge came during the 2024 special national convention themed “Celebrating Milestones, Embracing Memories, and Building the Future,” held at the Multipurpose Auditorium of Government Science School Kuru on April 27th, 2024. At the convention, the KOSA National President, Dr. Musa Wen Ibrahim, announced the establishment of a trust fund aimed at driving development initiatives and educational excellence within the school.
Addressing the convention, including representatives from various structures of KOSA, the guest speaker, Prof. C J Dakas (SAN), emphasized the pivotal role of alumni in the alma mater’s development. He underscored the importance of leveraging modern trends and global best practices to enhance curriculum standards and promote a conducive learning environment. Prof. Dakas urged alumni to contribute significantly to both the school’s advancement and the upliftment of the host community.
“In today’s knowledge economy, science reigns supreme as the driving force behind global progress. As we embrace the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the critical role of science in shaping our future cannot be overstated. My fervent hope is that students, alongside government agencies, will unite to transform Kuru into an IT hub and innovation center. Let us, as alumni, pledge our unwavering commitment to the development of our alma mater.” Prof. Dakas said
Dr. Musa Wen Ibrahim, in his remarks, highlighted the imperative of alumni involvement in driving positive change. He proposed the establishment of the Kuru Science School Education Trust, aimed at supporting the school’s physical, structural, and educational upliftment. The trust fund will provide scholarships to exceptional students for higher education in Nigerian universities, among other initiatives. Dr. Ibrahim kickstarted the fund with a personal donation of five hundred thousand naira and announced the formation of a board of trustees to oversee its operations.
As the convention progressed, the Chairman of the occasion, Nde Gideon Barde, emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms in secondary education in Plateau State to restore educational quality and relevance in the face of evolving global challenges. He urged collaboration between relevant stakeholders, including alumni associations, to revitalize alma maters and contribute to national development.
The convention provided a platform for alumni to reflect on past achievements, celebrate shared memories, and chart a course for the future. With the establishment of the Kuru Science School Education Trust and the commitment of alumni to contribute to educational excellence, the stage is set for transformative initiatives that will benefit current and future generations of students.
