The Kaduna State House of Assembly has initiated a probe into controversial foreign and domestic loans and grants obtained during the tenure of the immediate past administration led by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
The Assembly commenced the investigation during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by the Speaker, Yusuf Liman Dahiru. A committee was established to conduct the probe, tasked with scrutinizing financial transactions, loans, grants, and project implementations spanning the period from 2015 to 2023.
The probe panel has been mandated to summon El-Rufai and other prominent figures, including the former Speakers of the 8th and 9th Assemblies, as well as former commissioners of Finance and ex-commissioners of Budget and Planning.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State expressed concerns over the substantial debt burden inherited from the previous administration, which he asserted was hampering the current government’s ability to function effectively.
