In a bid to spur economic growth and development, the Plateau State Government has received calls to devise a comprehensive policy framework aimed at fostering a conducive environment to attract indigenous industrialists to invest in the state.
Dr. Godfrey Bawa Shitgurum, MON, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DUNCAN GROUP OF COMPANIES, which owns the Plateau Duncan Fertilizer Company located in Larwin, Heipang, Barkin Ladi LGA, made the appeal in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
Dr. Shitgurum emphasized the willingness of indigenous entrepreneurs to invest in their home state, provided the government creates an enabling environment. He stressed the importance of business-friendly policies, increased government partnership, collaboration, and enhanced security coverage as essential elements to attract investment.
“Many citizens of Plateau State are eager to return home and invest. They require the involvement and assurances of the government to facilitate their ventures,” stated Dr. Shitgurum. He emphasized the significance of continuous engagement between Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and entrepreneurs to foster confidence and promote investment.
Elaborating further, Dr. Shitgurum outlined key aspects of government involvement, including partnership, waivers on stringent conditions, provision of security, and protection of properties. He asserted that such measures would not only encourage the establishment of more companies in the state but also address unemployment and curb criminal activities.
Dr. Shitgurum underscored the importance of promoting and strengthening Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives, noting that this would stimulate indigenous investment and attract participation from both local and foreign investors.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need for innovative security strategies to restore relative peace in the state, which would, in turn, enhance investor confidence and attract more businesses.
The call comes amid efforts to revitalize Plateau State’s economy and harness its abundant natural resources and human capital. Dr. Shitgurum believes that with the right policies and conducive environment, Plateau State can emerge as a hub for investment, fostering sustainable growth and development.
The appeal signals a collective desire among stakeholders to collaborate with the government in advancing the economic prosperity of Plateau State.
