Ambassador Chris Giwa, the frontline candidate for the Plateau North Senatorial seat, maintains a slight lead in his polling unit, Kuru B, Dahwak 1, 2, and 3, according to the latest results. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a combined total of 266 votes, while the candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Prince Pam Dachung Mwadkwon, closely followed with 212 votes in the ongoing rerun election.
Although other reports are still being collated there are strong indications that the candidate of the ADP has moved into commanding lead from the early results that have trickled in so far.
The rerun election in Plateau North on Saturday 3rd February is overshadowed by low voter turnout, with some polling units recording less than 20 percent participation.
However in a recent development , the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Dr. Oliver Tersoo, announced the rescheduling of elections in 16 polling units in the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency of Plateau State.
As part of the bye-elections and rerun elections held today in 48 constituencies across 26 states of the federation, rerun elections were conducted in Jos North Senatorial District and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in Plateau State. However, on the eve of voting, the Commission discovered that ballot papers for 16 polling units in the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency had gone missing, prompting an investigation by security agencies.
To ensure that voters in the affected polling units are not disenfranchised, the Commission convened a stakeholders meeting to address the situation. It was resolved that the Commission would remobilize and conduct the election in the affected polling units tomorrow, Sunday, 4th February 2024, to conclude the process in the Federal Constituency.
The election will take place in three polling units in Naraguta “B” Ward and three polling units in Tudun Wada-I(abong Ward of Jos North LGA, totaling 16 polling units with 15,904 registered voters.
Voting will commence at 9:30 am and end at 3:30 pm to allow for the reconfiguration of the BVAS devices and other logistical arrangements. Voters in the queue before 3:30 pm will be allowed to vote.
INEC appeals to all eligible voters in the constituency to come out and cast their votes peacefully for the candidates of their choice, emphasizing that this arrangement only affects registered voters in the 16 polling units in the Federal Constituency and does not affect registered voters in the Jos North Senatorial District.
