Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of ADP Emerges Victorious in Plateau North Senatorial Rerun Election**
In a significant turn of events, Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the ADP has secured victory in the Plateau North Senatorial rerun election. The announcement was made by Prof. Nestor Monday D., the returning officer for the election, at the Jos North Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday, February 5th, 2023.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the results after collating votes from the six local governments in the district, namely Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Barkin Ladi, Bassa, and Room local government area.
The total number of registered voters stood at 1,232,825, with 278,129 voters accredited for the election.
Prince Pam of the ADP polled 122,442 votes to emerge winner of the election, Hon Muhammad Shafi’u Yakubu Sahalan, candidate of the NNPP came in a far second with 53,980 votes while Ambassador Chris Giwa of the APC came in third with 39,132 votes.
The total valid votes cast amounted to 274,098, with 2,912 votes rejected, resulting in a total of 277,010 votes cast.
The victory of Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the ADP marks a significant outcome in the Plateau North Senatorial rerun election, reshaping the political landscape in the region.
The rerun election was held after the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were excluded on the back of a judgment by the court of appeal, which also witnessed the election of former senator Simon Mwadkwon of the PDP annulled by the court of appeal. However, the significance of this victory is remarkable given that the PDP in the state, just hours before the election, had thrown their weight behind the candidate of the ADP.
