In response to the recent wave of violence in Plateau State, particularly in Bokkos, Barikin Ladi, and Mangu Local Government Areas, Plateau Our Heritage Revival Initiative (POHri) has issued a stern call to security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators responsible for the heinous acts.
Expressing deep sorrow over the attacks that occurred from the 24th to the 26th of December, 2023, which resulted in scores of casualties, injuries, and widespread property destruction, POHri vehemently condemned the unprovoked violence. The organization emphasized that such evil acts are contrary to the character of Plateau citizens and called on all Nigerians to unite in condemning this threat to national security.
In a statement jointly signed by Hon. Alex Kwapnoe, Chairman of POHri, and Friday Bako, Secretary of POHri, the group urged governments at all levels to fulfill their primary responsibilities of safeguarding citizens’ lives and property while addressing their welfare. The organization stressed the importance of demonstrating political will through the enactment and enforcement of severe penalties by legislative bodies to curb insurgency and foster a peaceful and prosperous nation.
The initiative called on security agencies to elevate their operations, neutralize the perpetrators, and ensure their arrest for full prosecution under the law. POHri emphasized the need for empowering security forces with superior efforts to overpower terrorists and deliver justice.
Drawing attention to previous successful arrests, POHri underscored the importance of deploying greater energy to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the recent killings, emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement of laws against small arms and firearms across the country’s borders.
Highlighting the paramount importance of protecting the nation’s territorial integrity, POHri called for increased attention to curb external aggressors and criminal elements. The organization also urged governments, non-governmental organizations, and well-meaning individuals to expedite relief interventions for displaced persons and provide medical aid to the injured.
In a final call to citizens, POHri encouraged increased security consciousness to repel potential threats, emphasizing the commitment of law-abiding citizens to work towards a more united, peaceful, and prosperous Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
