The Plateau State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (PLASCHEMA), established over three years ago to enhance healthcare delivery, has recently addressed allegations and presented a commendable record of success, despite recent challenges.
Following the change of government in May 29, 2023, PLASCHEMA faced unwarranted misgivings, potentially orchestrated by unidentified individuals aiming to discredit the agency’s accomplishments. In response, the agency has taken the initiative to account for its stewardship over the last seven months.
Director of the Agency, Mr. David Wuyep, speaking on behalf of the Director General, Dr. Agabus Manasseh Nanfwang, highlighted significant achievements. He noted that the State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, provided over N300 million to address health challenges among vulnerable populations.
Nanfwang further addressed financial matters, stating that upon assuming office, PLASCHEMA had an outstanding debt of N162,000,000, which has been fully cleared. The agency was quick to resolve payment issues, ensuring it is up-to-date with capitation and fee-for-service payments to healthcare facilities.
Addressing allegations of misappropriation, Nanfwang explained that an investigative audit, prompted by an executive order from the Attorney General, was conducted. The findings were submitted for necessary punitive measures, asserting that the agency’s financial integrity remains intact.
Nanfwang dismissed claims of extravagant spending on portrait production, emphasizing that no contract amounting to N13 million for portraits had been awarded. He also clarified his financial stewardship, stating that he inherited only N38 million, refuting the accusation of spending N800 million.
In response to netizens on social media accusing the agency of being a conduit for siphoning state funds, Nanfwang reiterated PLASCHEMA’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Highlighting achievements, Nanfwang mentioned increased enrolments from both the formal and informal sectors, attracting over 3,000 enrollees. Additionally, the agency has witnessed an expansion of accredited facilities and hosted a study tour for neighboring states.
In a recent update, PLASCHEMA reported receiving N327 million from the government as counterpart funding for the vulnerable in 2024. This fund was allocated for the Equity Health Plan, providing free healthcare for vulnerable groups in Plateau State.
Nanfwang encouraged the public, especially those not categorized as vulnerable, to take advantage of the scheme’s benefits and subsidize their healthcare financial expenditure. The agency remains committed to eliminating pocket expenditure and improving the health indices of the people.
