After the Supreme Court’s decisive verdict on January 12, 2024, affirming Barr. Caleb Mutfwang as the legitimately elected Governor of Plateau State, Hon. Alex Kwapnoe, a former member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, has called for the voluntary resignation of beneficiaries of the Appeal Court’s decisions that led to the removal of certain National and State House of Assembly Members from Plateau State.
The Supreme Court ruled that the Court of Appeal made an error in entertaining the petition that resulted in the dismissal of some legislators.
Hon. Alex Kwapnoe emphasized the need to pass on a legacy of hope, justice, equity, and fairness to future generations. He stated, “My stand is unequivocally put, therefore, that those who commit breaches must be severely penalized as a deterrence to future polls thieves.”
He expressed concern about the integrity of the judiciary and urged that those found guilty in the Appeal Court should not be allowed to ascend to the Supreme Court. Additionally, he called for the resignation of those who orchestrated the alleged manipulation of the people’s mandate.
“Hon. Kwapnoe called for integrity and good moral standing on the part of the judiciary, the political class, and all Nigerians to address the moral deficit in the nation.”
He stressed the importance of upholding truth and dispensing justice without being influenced by sentiments and biases, asserting that these principles are crucial for building a corrupt-free and progressive nation.
