Gusau, Zamfara State – The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Master Bakers and Caterers has reported the closure of over 150 bakeries across the State due to severe economic challenges. The revelation came from the association’s Secretary, Alhaji Habibu Abdullahi, during a press briefing in Gusau, the State capital.
Abdullahi emphasized that the rising prices of baking materials and ingredients had left these bakeries with no choice but to shut down their operations. The economic strain caused by these increasing costs has severely impacted their profitability.
He urged the Federal Government to intervene and address the situation by implementing measures to reduce the inflation rate of essential commodities in the country. The high cost of baking materials has led to reduced patronage, exacerbating the difficulties faced by the baking industry.
According to Abdullahi, the recent surge in prices of essential commodities, such as flour, sugar, butter, and other vital bread-making ingredients, had led to an increase in bread prices in Zamfara State and across the nation. He cited examples of flour prices reaching N43,000 and sugar prices soaring to N62,500.
The Secretary of the association expressed his gratitude to loyal customers for their cooperation and understanding during these challenging times. He appealed to customers to bear with the difficult situation, as the baking industry grapples with economic pressures and strives to remain afloat.
