Renowned socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has forewarned of an impending protest that could surpass the intensity of the 2020 nationwide #EndSARS movement.
Yesufu, who played a prominent role in the #EndSARS protests against police brutality, suggested that the simmering anger in the country, fueled by the impunity of corrupt politicians, may lead to an unexpected and potentially more forceful uprising.
Recall that the #EndSARS movement, initially a decentralized social movement, gained momentum on social media, demanding the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a controversial unit within the Nigeria Police known for alleged human rights abuses.
The protest, which started on Twitter, resulted in mass demonstrations occurring throughout the major cities of Nigeria and accompanied violence, leading to the death of many young Nigerians.
Aisha Yesufu, who was one of the activists at the center of the protest, conveyed the possibility of another uprising catching Nigerians unaware. She highlighted the prevailing anger in the country, driven by the audacity of corrupt politicians who have manipulated their way into power.
“Nobody saw the #EndSARS protest coming. Nobody will see the next uprising coming. Sadly, it might end up being violent. There is a simmering anger fueled by the impunity and brazenness of the corrupt politicians and rulers who have rigged their way into power. Nobody will be spared,” she expressed on X.
