Plateau State – Tragedy struck Kulben community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State as a band of suspected gunmen, believed to be bandits, launched a deadly attack, resulting in the loss of 10 lives.
The shocking incident, which occurred on Sunday night, left the community in mourning as residents grappled with the aftermath of the brutal attack. Moses Fwan, a resident of Kulben village, confirmed the attack to reporters in Jos.
According to Fwan, the armed assailants, allegedly a Fulani militia group, descended upon Kulben village within Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area at approximately 10:00 pm on September 10, 2023. The attackers ruthlessly killed 10 innocent individuals, leaving many others injured in their wake. The bandits also didn’t spare the properties of the villagers, destroying several houses before making their escape.
Fwan revealed, “Presently, our people are mourning the gruesome killing of their kinsmen, and arrangements are ongoing to conduct a mass burial for the victims.”
Dr. Elisha, the Chairman of Mwaghavul Development Association in Kombun District, corroborated the devastating attack, stating, “From the information I got, 10 persons were killed during the invasion. I’m on my way to the village.”
In response to the harrowing incident, The Plateau State Police Command’s Spokesman, Alfred Alabo, stated that his office had not yet received an official report of the attack.
Similarly, Captain Oya James, the media officer for the Military Special Task Force professed his unawareness of the incident. However, he assured the public that he would promptly investigate the matter and take necessary actions to prevent further occurrences.
The Kulben community remains in shock and grief following this tragic attack, underscoring the pressing need for security measures to be strengthened in the region to safeguard innocent lives and property from such senseless acts of violence.
