In recent news, there are indications of trouble at a Jos-based radio station, Unity FM, following the suspension of its popular program and Morning Show, “Unity Train” and rumors of a possible departure of one of its star on-air personalities, Bello Lukman.
Sources close to the station suggest that the suspension of the station’s flagship program “Unity Train” was what management deemed as lapses on the part of the presenters and monitoring team when it was said to have promoted and hyped some individuals which did not go down well with the management.
The suspension has also fueled speculation of a possible shake-up of the station’s presenters and programming with rumors of Porpular OAP, Bello Lukman’s departure adding to the uncertainty surrounding the station’s future.
Over the years there has been alleged high-handedness by the management with poor remuneration and salaries, as some presenters are rumored to be paid as low as 5000 Naira and others 25000 Naira despite the station being one of the most listened to stations in Jos Plateau State.
Lukman, who has been with the station for over a decade, is a well-known and respected personality in the media industry, and his departure would be a significant loss for the station.
Our investigations suggest that the management of the station and Bello Lukman have been at loggerheads over several issues, including the direction of the station’s programming and the presenter’s remuneration. These disagreements have reportedly led to a breakdown in the relationship between the two parties, with Lukman now considering his options.
The situation has sparked concern among the station’s listeners and fans of Lukman, who have taken to social media to express their disappointment and call for a resolution to the impasse.
The station’s management has not commented on the rumors surrounding Lukman’s departure or the suspension of the Morning Show “Unity Train”.
The coming days will be crucial in determining the direction of the station, and whether it can weather the storm and emerge stronger or face a decline in its fortunes.
