Plateau State PDP governorship candidate, Kefas Wungak Ropshik, popularly known as Kefiano, has flagged off a free medical outreach targeted at providing healthcare services to 17,000 indigent residents across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
The flag-off ceremony was held at the Bukuru Mini Stadium, where residents, including indigent persons, turned out to access free medical services.
The one-day outreach which is organized by the Kefiano Global Foundation is scheduled to hold simultaneously across the 17 LGAs on Saturday, September 26, 2026, with a target of treating about 1,000 beneficiaries in each local government.
Speaking during the flag-off, Kefiano thanked God for providing the resources and the health workers who volunteered their time to participate in the exercise.
He said the initiative was motivated by the growing number of people who require medical attention but cannot afford hospital bills and other healthcare expenses.
According to him, the outreach is not his first intervention, saying he has been organising free medical programmes for about nine to ten years.
“I know that we have a lot of people that are sick and cannot go to the hospital because they don’t have what it takes to go to the hospital. A lot of people are yearning for assistance, and that’s the truth. That is the reason why we decided to embark on this.”
Kefiano said although the initiative was taking place ahead of the 2027 elections, his primary concern was ensuring that people in need benefit from the intervention.
He said his motivation was also driven by the level of poverty and healthcare challenges facing residents, stressing that good health remains one of the greatest assets anyone can have.
He urged individuals who have the means to assist others in their communities, saying that helping people in need was an important way of contributing to society.
Kefiano also expressed concern over the continued killings and insecurity in Plateau State, saying the situation requires political will and practical measures to address it.
He said leadership should prioritise the welfare and security of citizens, noting that political office holders owe their positions to the people.
According to him, his aspiration is not primarily about accumulating wealth or political positions but about making a positive impact on people’s lives.
“I don’t want to be remembered by what money I’ve made. I don’t want to be remembered by any political position that I am going to get. I want to be remembered by how many lives God has used me to change and transform.”
He also appealed to the media to continue projecting positive stories about Plateau State while reporting the challenges confronting the people.
17,000 Residents Targeted
Dr. Dan Mathew, a medical expert and volunteer with the Kefiano Global Foundation, said the outreach would provide basic medical checks, treatment and preventive healthcare services.
He said the beneficiaries would receive anti-malaria drugs, malaria prophylaxis, multivitamins, deworming tablets and vitamin C, among other medical supplies.
He added that mosquito nets would be distributed to pregnant women, while elderly beneficiaries would also receive reading glasses.
Dr. Mathew disclosed that 34 health workers would participate in the exercise, with two personnel assigned from each local government, alongside volunteers from the Red Cross and other organisations.
He said the medical exercise would take place simultaneously in all 17 LGAs on Saturday, with the organisers targeting approximately 1,000 beneficiaries per local government.
Beneficiaries Commend Initiative
Some beneficiaries, including Mrs Rose David and Mr Stephen Dung from Gyel, expressed appreciation for the intervention.
Community leader, Da Davou Mancha, also commended the initiative, describing Kefiano as a philanthropist who has consistently supported people in need.
The beneficiaries said the medical outreach would provide relief to residents who may otherwise struggle to afford basic healthcare services.
