The Northern Christian Association (NCA) has condemned recent attacks in Plateau State that reportedly claimed at least nine lives, including a pastor travelling to church.
The group, through its chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, described the continued violence as a serious concern and warned against allowing recurring attacks to become normal in the country.
The attacks were reported in parts of Barkin Ladi, Riyom and surrounding areas. Five people were reportedly killed when gunmen attacked a vehicle travelling towards Gana-Ropp, while a pastor and another passenger were also killed at Dorowa Babuje.
The NCA acknowledged the efforts of security personnel but called for a more proactive approach to preventing attacks.
The group urged security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and work closely with residents, stressing that local communities could play an important role in identifying and preventing security threats.
It also called for those responsible for the attacks to be identified and prosecuted.
The development comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in Plateau State, with Northern CAN separately urging the Federal and Plateau State governments to take immediate steps to protect vulnerable communities and restore lasting peace.
Northern CAN also appealed to residents to remain united and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions, while urging authorities to make the protection of lives and property a priority.
