The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The anti-graft agency announced this in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
According to the notice, Maina, 61, who is an indigene of Biu in Borno State, is being sought in connection with the alleged offence.
The EFCC appealed to members of the public who may have information about his whereabouts to contact any of its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja.
The commission also advised anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
However, the latest wanted notice did not provide details about the property allegedly received by Maina or when the alleged offence occurred.
The development comes amid Maina’s long-running legal troubles over allegations linked to pension funds. He was previously declared wanted after failing to appear for trial in a case involving alleged N2 billion fraud connected to the pension reform programme.
He was arrested in Niger Republic in 2019 and returned to Nigeria to face trial. In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him of money laundering and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The conviction and sentence were later upheld by the Court of Appeal in 2023.
The Nigerian Correctional Service subsequently said Maina was released on February 25, 2025, after qualifying for statutory remission based on his conduct and the period already spent in custody.
The EFCC’s latest declaration marks another development in the former pension official’s continuing legal battles.
