The Zamfara State Government has commenced the digital transformation of its general hospitals, beginning with the General Hospital Gusau as part of efforts to modernise healthcare delivery across the state.
The initiative is being implemented under Governor Dauda Lawal’s Digital Transformation Agenda and is expected to improve hospital administration, record-keeping, accountability and the overall efficiency of healthcare services.
General Hospital Gusau is the first of seven state-owned general hospitals scheduled for the digital upgrade. The other facilities are located in Anka, Maru, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Nasarawa Burkullu and Yariman Bakura.
The new system will also be linked to an existing digital platform for managing medicines and medical supplies. This will enable authorities to monitor inventory across the supply chain, improve accountability and ensure that essential supplies are available when required.
The state government said the digitalisation would reduce reliance on manual paperwork, improve access to patient information and strengthen the documentation of hospital activities.
It is also expected to enhance revenue monitoring and provide more reliable data for planning and decision-making, while reducing administrative delays that can affect the delivery of healthcare services.
Beyond administrative improvements, the government said the initiative would use technology to strengthen patient records and support healthcare professionals with better information for clinical decision-making, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to residents.
The project involves collaboration among the Zamfara State Ministry of Health, Hospital Services Management Board, State Internal Revenue Service, Primary Healthcare Board and the Drugs Management Agency.
The digital upgrade is part of the wider efforts of the Lawal administration to modernise and improve healthcare infrastructure and services across Zamfara State. The state government has previously highlighted the renovation, modernisation and upgrading of general hospitals as a priority in its health-sector programme.
