Croatia striker, Mario Mandzukic on Sunday made history in his side’s
4-2 defeat to France in the 2018 World Cup final fixtures played at the
Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
Mandzukic became the first player in 40 years to score both a goal and an own goal during one FIFA World Cup match.
The Juventus striker scored an own goal after he diverted Antoine
Griezmann’s free kick into his own net in the 18th minute, and
capitalized on a poor error from France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and
tapped the ball into an empty net in the 69th minute.
However, Mandzukic and Ivan Perisic goals were not enough as goals
from Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe ensured that the
Les Blues claimed their second World Cup trophy after winning their
first in 1998 on home soil.
