Women who had reasons to leave abusive relationships and become
single mothers have taken to Tonto Dikeh’s Instagram account to school
two men who said “a woman without a man is not responsible” because it
is un-African for a woman to be a single mother.

It all began after Tonto Dikeh shared a lovely new photo of herself. A
male follower replied by saying a prayer for Tonto that she will get
back with her ex-husband Olakunle Churchill.

Tonto rebuked the prayer and told the follower that such a prayer was an evil wish.

But the follower stood his ground and told Tonto that “all African
women need a man in their life” because “it is not our thing in black
race to live a life of single parent.”

Another follower with the handle @Curtis_90 also replied to support the young man who commented earlier.

@Curtis_90 said: “@tontolet pride will not take you anywhere. A woman without a man is not responsible.”

But a number of women did not agree with the above comment and they
replied, explaining to the poster why his reasoning is flawed.

Women who chose to walk out of abusive relationships also narrated
their heartbreaking experience and why it was important that they left
such relationships.
