Woman Killed in Suspected Bandit Attack in Plateau Community

A woman has been killed by suspected bandits in Batok 2 Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:00pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, after troops of Sector 6, Operation ENDURING PEACE, responded to reports of sporadic gunshots in the community.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the troops moved to the area and searched the surrounding vicinity following the reports.

During the search, they discovered the body of a woman identified as Mrs Helen John, a native of the community.

Preliminary findings indicated that the attackers allegedly laid an ambush and hid in a nearby maize farm before attacking the victim while she was carrying out household chores.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear as security authorities continue their investigation.

The victim’s remains were subsequently handed over to community leaders for further action.

Security forces have reportedly commenced efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Patrols and surveillance have also been intensified in Batok 2 and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.
