Wike Defends Tinubu’s Infrastructure Focus, Says FCT Hospitals Undergoing Rehabilitation

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended the administration of President Bola Tinubu over claims that its development efforts are skewed in favour of infrastructure, to the detriment of critical sectors like health and education.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike stated that it is unrealistic to expect a complete turnaround in every sector within just two years of the administration’s tenure.

He explained that while the Tinubu-led government is investing heavily in infrastructure, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has also begun revitalizing the health sector.

“Take for instance the abandoned Utako Hospital, Gwagwalada Hospital, Gwarimpa, the doctors’ quarters, and the mess. Like I said, this is just two years in office; it is not possible to turn around every sector,” Wike said.

He added that rehabilitation works are ongoing at the Gwarimpa Hospital, and efforts are underway to complete the long-abandoned Utako Hospital, signalling a broader commitment to improve healthcare delivery in the FCT.

Wike’s comments come amid increasing public scrutiny over federal priorities, with some critics calling for more balanced attention across sectors such as education, health, and social welfare.
