Prophet Emmanuel Okeke has said men who depend on financial contributions from friends and family to fund their weddings may not be ready for the responsibilities of marriage.
Okeke made the remarks while preaching to his congregation, where he criticised the practice of creating WhatsApp groups to solicit money for wedding ceremonies.
According to the pastor, a man should be financially prepared to take responsibility for his marriage rather than relying on others to raise funds for the wedding.
“If you need us to support you to marry, you should not marry. You’re not fit to marry,” he said.
He also argued that personally bearing the financial sacrifices involved in getting married could make a man more willing to endure difficulties that may arise in the marriage.
The cleric added that depending on others to fund a wedding could make it easier for a man to abandon the marriage when faced with challenges.
