While speaking with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
in Minna, the Niger state capital on Thursday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar
said that he will work for the success of the party even if he does not
win the presidential ticket.
According to TheCable, the former Vice-President said all the
presidential aspirants met with the national working committee of the
party on Wednesday and agreed to support whoever emerges as the party’s
flagbearer in the 2019 elections.
Atiku said he was ready to align with the decision. “I am ever ready to work towards the success of the party if level playing ground is provided during the party primaries,” he said.
“Whether I become the presidential candidate or not, I want to
assure you that I will always discharge my obligations to ensure the
success of the polls.”
Speaking further, he expressed optimism of winning the presidential
ticket of the party if a level playing ground is provided, and called
on the leadership of the party to demonstrate “high sense of political maturity in conducting free, fair and transparent presidential primaries.”
The Presidential Aspirant said further that the bid to offer his
service to the nation is what motivated him to come out and contest.
“I have always been motivated by service to the nation and not
for selfish reason. There is no question of me pushing so hard. If I am
strong enough and health enough, why not continue to offer my services
to the country.
“I do not think I will like to be anybody else other than a
Nigerian. The country have been good to me and I will continue to offer
my service to the country. That is my main motivation and it is not
motivated by selfishness. ”
Atiku said that he is not ready to retire from politics,”my retirement in politics will depend on my ability, age and health. I will continue to serve this country. ”
