Veteran Actor Patrick Stewart, Star Trek and X-Men Star, Dies at 86

Veteran British actor Sir Patrick Stewart, best known for his roles in the popular Star Trek and X-Men franchises, has died at the age of 86 following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.

Stewart died on Wednesday, October 28, at his home in Los Angeles, United States, according to a statement shared on his official social media account. The statement said he passed away in the care of his wife, Sunny Ozell, following what the family described as a brief and difficult journey with the illnesses.

The award-winning actor gained international recognition for portraying Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which aired from 1987 to 1994. He also became widely celebrated for playing Professor Charles Xavier, popularly known as Professor X, in the X-Men film series, beginning in 2000.

Beyond his success in film and television, Stewart enjoyed a distinguished career in theatre, particularly through his work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he performed several classical Shakespearean roles.

Born on July 13, 1940, in Mirfield, Yorkshire, England, Stewart began his acting career at a young age and rose through the British theatre industry before becoming a household name in Hollywood. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2010 in recognition of his contributions to drama.

His death has drawn tributes from colleagues and entertainment figures, including Marvel Studios, which described him as a singular talent, generous collaborator and true gentleman. Actor William Shatner, his fellow Star Trek star, also paid tribute, describing Stewart as a magnificent actor who brought intelligence, grace and humanity to his performances.

Stewart is survived by his wife, Sunny Ozell, whom he married in 2013, and his two children from his first marriage.
