Electricity supply to the Nigerian High Commission in Tshwane, South Africa, was disconnected over unpaid electricity bills.
The city’s executive mayor, Dr. Nasiphi Moya, disclosed the development in a post on X, stating that power was cut after the diplomatic mission failed to settle its electricity charges as required.
However, a few hours later, Dr. Moya confirmed that electricity supply had been restored to the Nigerian High Commission.
The incident is not the first time a Nigerian diplomatic mission in South Africa has been disconnected due to unpaid utility bills.
In January 2023, City Power, the electricity distribution company in Johannesburg, disconnected power supply to Nigeria’s consulate over an unpaid electricity bill estimated at about $35,000.
