The University of Jos Alumni Association has condemned the killing of a student by fellow students, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence that has no place within the institution.

In a statement signed by its Global President, Gad Peter, the association said it received the news of the student’s death with “profound shock and deep sadness.”

The alumni body strongly denounced the attack, stating that violence contradicts the core values of the University of Jos, including excellence, character, mutual respect and humanity.

“The University of Jos Alumni Association does not condone violence in any form. No grievance, disagreement or circumstance can ever justify the taking of a human life,” the statement read.

The association called on the relevant authorities to carry out a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

According to the statement, holding those responsible accountable is necessary not only to honour the memory of the deceased but also to protect the safety and integrity of the university community.

The association further urged students and members of the university community to reject violence and embrace peace, responsibility and respect for the sanctity of human life.

It also extended its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, as well as the entire University of Jos community, praying for the repose of the student’s soul and for justice to prevail.
