Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a series of strong warnings to Iran, urging it to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions in the Gulf region.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump used forceful language to threaten consequences if the waterway remains restricted, suggesting significant escalation could follow if access is not restored.
His remarks come as Iranian strikes reportedly continue to target oil facilities and infrastructure across neighbouring Gulf states, with no clear sign of de-escalation.
Speaking in a separate interview, Trump indicated that negotiations may still be underway but warned that failure to reach a deal quickly could lead to severe action. He suggested that critical infrastructure in Iran could become targets if talks collapse, and hinted at the possibility of broader intervention.
The situation has heightened global concern, with the United Kingdom said to be preparing contingency plans in case disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz affect international energy supplies.
