Troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion, operating under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V, have rescued a woman and her two children during a perimeter clearance patrol in Borno State.

The victims were rescued at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, during a patrol around Amuda Bridge.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the woman, identified as 25-year-old Rukaya Mohammed, was rescued alongside her two children, six-year-old Hauwa Mustapha and four-year-old Fati Mustapha.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that Rukaya was abducted in 2017 from Vartalaka and later forced into a child marriage in Chinene, where she lived with her husband in Wunje community.

Rukaya reportedly told the troops that disagreements among members of the terrorist group created an opportunity for her and her children to escape after some of the fighters abandoned the camp.

Following their rescue, the woman and her children were handed over to the relevant authorities for necessary assistance and further action.

The rescue highlights ongoing military efforts to clear terrorist hideouts and rescue civilians held captive by insurgents in parts of Borno State.
