Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued four kidnap victims during ongoing operations against a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Muhammadu Fulani, and members of his gang in Katsina State.
The development was disclosed by the Katsina State Government in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu.
The rescued victims were identified as Musa Yakuba, 62; Alhaji Sa’adu Dayi, 68; Mukhtar Danja, 36; and Salisu Danja, 50.
According to the statement, the victims regained their freedom during sustained military operations targeting bandit hideouts in areas where the criminal group was believed to be operating.
The government said the victims received immediate medical attention after their rescue, having sustained gunshot injuries while in captivity.
It also recalled that the wife of the late Major General Abubakar Rabe (rtd) had earlier been rescued in a related operation.
The statement noted that the four rescued individuals were among those seen in a photograph and video circulating online that showed them alongside the late retired military officer during their captivity.
The Katsina State Government commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their professionalism, courage, and dedication in carrying out the rescue operation.
It said ongoing security operations continue to record successes in the fight against banditry and kidnapping across the state.
The government further assured residents that security forces remain in pursuit of Kachalla Muhammadu Fulani and other criminal elements responsible for attacks and abductions in various communities.
According to the statement, military operations will continue until those responsible for acts of violence and terrorism are apprehended and brought to justice.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while pledging continued collaboration with security agencies to deny criminal groups any safe haven within Katsina State.
