Troops Foil Armed Robbery Attack, Rescue Two Locals in Plateau

Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have foiled an attempted armed robbery along the Apel-Jipun road in Pushit District, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after troops received reports of gunshots allegedly fired by suspected armed robbers along the highway.

The soldiers quickly mobilised to the area, forcing the suspected robbers to abandon their operation and flee into the surrounding area.

During a subsequent search of the location, the troops rescued two locals, identified as Samuel Dauda and Luka Daar, who were reportedly travelling on a motorcycle from Maraban when they encountered the armed men.

Security personnel also recovered three empty 7.62mm Special ammunition cartridge cases at the scene.

Following the incident, troops intensified patrols along the highway and other strategic locations within the area to deter criminal activities and prevent further attacks on motorists and residents.

The increased security presence is expected to help safeguard commuters and residents using the route.
