Fubara reinstated as governor as rivers sole administrator hands over power

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday evening summoned the immediate past Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Ibas, who arrived at about 5:50 p.m. dressed in brown native attire, was closely followed by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

The meeting comes just days after Ibas concluded his six-month tenure as Sole Administrator of Rivers State. He was appointed in March following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, which also saw the suspension of the executive arm of government.

President Tinubu, in a directive issued last week, restored Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly to office. Ibas officially handed over on September 17.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has announced plans to probe the state’s finances and expenditure during the emergency rule.
