President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the removal of Maryam Sanda, who was sentenced to death in 2020 for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, from the recently released presidential pardon list.

The development was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, President Tinubu directed that individuals convicted of grave offenses — including kidnapping, drug-related crimes, human trafficking, fraud, and illegal possession or trafficking of firearms — be excluded from the list of those granted clemency.

The Presidency also clarified that some individuals who appeared on the earlier version of the list have now had their sentences reduced rather than being fully pardoned.

Further details on the updated list are expected to be released soon.
