President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday decorated the newly appointed Service Chiefs with their new ranks during a brief ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The event followed their confirmation by the National Assembly and was attended by top dignitaries, including members of the National Assembly leadership, state governors, ministers, and other senior government officials.
Those decorated were General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiendeye Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence; Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff; Air Marshal Kevin Aneke, Chief of Air Staff; and Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of Naval Staff.
President Tinubu had last Friday announced the appointment of the new Service Chiefs as part of efforts to refocus and strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, the President charged the newly decorated military leaders to “deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces as they serve the nation with honour.”
The brief but symbolic ceremony marks a new phase in the administration’s security strategy, as the commanders assume full responsibility for steering the defence apparatus of the country.
