A Nigerian tenant has expressed shock after discovering that the remains of his landlord’s late father had been buried underneath the living room of the apartment he had been occupying for more than a year.
The tenant, identified on X as Mr Bachelor, said he only became aware of the burial when members of his landlord’s family recently arrived at the property to exhume the remains.
According to him, the family informed him that the deceased, who was the landlord’s father, had been buried inside the living room before the property was rented out to him.
The tenant said the discovery was particularly disturbing because he had been living and sleeping in the apartment for over a year without knowing that a burial had taken place beneath the floor. He also noted that the house was newly built and he was its first tenant.
The landlord’s family reportedly told him they had made arrangements to move the remains to another location and promised to repair the living room after the exhumation.
The tenant said he had renewed his rent only a month earlier and was left uncertain about what steps to take following the unexpected discovery.
In a subsequent update, he said the remains had been exhumed on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and shared an AI-generated image depicting the process.
The unusual incident has generated reactions online, with many questioning how the burial took place without the tenant being informed before he rented the property.
