President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his promise to reward members of Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, with the naira equivalent of $100,000 each following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced on Monday, November 2, 2026, that the players had begun receiving their payments, while members of the team’s technical crew and officials received the equivalent of $50,000 each.
According to the commission, each player is receiving approximately ₦140 million, completing the cash component of the reward package promised by the President after Nigeria secured its record-extending 10th continental title.

The Super Falcons defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final played in Rabat on July 26, 2025, staging a remarkable comeback after trailing by two goals.
Tinubu had announced the financial rewards during a presidential reception for the victorious team at the State House in Abuja on July 28, 2025. He also promised each player and member of the technical crew a three-bedroom apartment and conferred on them the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The players had earlier received their housing allocation documents and certificates of national honours before the latest payment was made.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, commended Tinubu for fulfilling his commitment, describing the development as an important step towards recognising sporting excellence in the country.
He noted that some Nigerian athletes had previously waited several years to receive rewards promised for their achievements, adding that the latest development would encourage athletes to represent the country with confidence.
The payment follows a similar reward package fulfilled for Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, whose players received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each in September 2026 after winning their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025.
