Three-time African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, have arrived in Fez, Morocco, ahead of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025), where they will aim for a long-awaited fourth title.
Dressed in green traditional kaftans with floral embroidery and matching caps, the Eric Sekou Chelle-led squad departed Cairo on Tuesday around midday via a chartered flight, arriving in Fez by evening.
Their late arrival led to the cancellation of their scheduled first training session in Fez, but preparations are expected to commence today in the historic city, renowned as one of Morocco’s most fascinating imperial cities and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Prior to arriving in Morocco, the Super Eagles spent five days in Cairo for the initial phase of their preparation, concluding with a 2-1 defeat to the Pharaohs of Egypt in their only pre-AFCON friendly match.
Nigeria is drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. Their campaign opens next Tuesday against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, followed by clashes with Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles on December 27 and Uganda’s Cranes on December 30.
