The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has described social media as a “terrorist organisation,” calling on security agencies to take urgent steps to curb its misuse.
In the remarks, captured in a video posted by News Central, the prominent Nigerian traditional leader criticised the platform for spreading false narratives that can destabilise society.
“What happened has happened. You cannot come and be doing social media because that is one terrorist organisation.
“Social media is a terrorist organisation. What they do; somebody will sit down in his comfort zone and formulate stories, and you will discover that it is not true,” the Sultan stated.
The Sultan’s call for action emphasizes the need to curb misinformation, which he believes is easily spread by individuals crafting deceptive stories online.
“So, social media is a terrorist organisation that we must deal with. Security agencies must deal with this terrorist organisation called social media,” he reiterated.
