St. Augustine Catholic Church to Host 2025 Unity & Cultural Food Fiesta, Celebrating Diversity and Community Development

The St. Augustine Pastoral Area in Dong, under the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, is set to host its highly anticipated 2025 Unity and Cultural Food Fiesta/Fundraising on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, located behind GSS Dong. The event, themed “Celebrating the Church’s Diversity,” aims to promote unity through culture while raising funds for pastoral and community development initiatives.

According to the organizing committee, the festivities will begin immediately after the Holy Mass, bringing together parishioners, community leaders, political figures, and cultural troupes for a celebration of Plateau State’s rich heritage and the strength found in its diversity.

The event boasts a distinguished list of dignitaries and guests who have confirmed their attendance, led by the Chief Host, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Ishaya Audu, Archbishop of Jos. The Host Priest, Rev. Fr. Barde George, has emphasized that the celebration is not only spiritual but also a testament to the church’s commitment to cultural inclusion and social cohesion.

The Chief Launcher for the event is Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while the Special Guest of Honour is the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.

Also expected at the occasion are prominent personalities such as:

  • Chairman: H.E. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, Senator representing Plateau South
  • Chairlady: Hon. Grace Dongkum, Commissioner for Finance, Plateau State
  • Mother of the Day: Lady Victoria Selbyen Ari, Director of Commerce
  • Father of the Day: Rt. Hon. Peter Ajang Azi, former Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly
  • Special Guest: H.E. Sen. Joshua Chibi Dariye, former Governor of Plateau State
  • Guest Speaker: Prof. Mrs. Bibiyana Bawa, former lecturer, University of Jos

The cultural fiesta will feature traditional food exhibitions, dances, music, and other indigenous displays representing the diverse ethnic groups within and outside the Catholic community. The fundraising component will support ongoing church projects and outreach programs.

Other notable guests include lawmakers, commissioners, royal fathers, entrepreneurs, and community influencers such as Sen. Pam Mwadkon, Rt. Hon. Dewan Gabriel Kudangbena (Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly), Hon. Mark Na’ah, and Alh. Bashir Wada Kawu, among others.

The royal presence will be led by HRH Adagwom Kaze Nyam, District Head of Dong, and HRH Da Daniel Danka Choji, Gwom Dong.

The event is organized by the Church Planning Committee (CPC), chaired by Amb. Mrs. Dorcas Peter Azi, with Mr. Mathias Mancha Pwol serving as Secretary. Legal icon Barr. Cyang Zi (SAN) and sports advocate Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande are also among the event’s top supporters.

With preparations in top gear, the 2025 Unity and Cultural Food Fiesta promises to be a memorable gathering that celebrates Plateau’s multicultural richness, encourages dialogue, and strengthens bonds across religious and ethnic divides.
