Shehu Sani Dismisses ADC Opposition Coalition, Says It Carries PDP, APC DNA

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has downplayed the credibility of the newly formed opposition coalition adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, describing it as a product of the same political tendencies it claims to oppose.

In a post shared on his X account, the former lawmaker said the coalition cannot be considered different from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as its members largely originated from both parties.

“Some people came with the DNA of the ruling party and some with the DNA of the PDP and gave birth to the coalition. And you say that baby is different,” Sani wrote.

The new coalition, which recently adopted the ADC as its official political vehicle, includes prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal, former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Sani’s remarks underscore skepticism among political observers who question whether the coalition can truly offer a fresh alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political blocs, given the backgrounds of many of its key members.
