Public affairs analyst and activist, Blessing Akinlosotu, has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to strengthen oversight of social media content creators to curb potential abuse.
Akinlosotu made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday while reacting to the controversy involving Seyi Tinubu, social commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and content creator Mitchel Mukoro, also known as King Mitchy.
VeryDarkMan had alleged that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and King Mitchy threatened his life over remarks he made concerning a reported N100 million donation. However, Seyi Tinubu dismissed the allegation in a detailed statement over the weekend.
The dispute reportedly escalated further following claims that King Mitchy allegedly attempted to take her own life, adding another layer of controversy to the ongoing feud.
Reacting to the situation, Akinlosotu described it as unnecessary for VeryDarkMan to involve Seyi Tinubu in the matter. She also condemned the alleged actions attributed to King Mitchy.
“I call on the Nigerian Communications Commission, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and other regulatory agencies to start paying closer and more serious attention to content being generated and churned out on a daily basis by creators across the federation through media,” she said.
“There must be strong sanctions, and some persons must be made scapegoats as a way of deterrence.”
The controversy has continued to generate debate online, with supporters of the individuals involved expressing divergent views on the matter.
