Seun Kuti Calls for Law Against False Miracle Claims by Pastors

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has sparked reactions after urging the Federal Government to take action against pastors who claim to perform miracles without proof.

In a live video, Kuti said there should be a law requiring anyone claiming to perform miracles to provide verifiable evidence, preferably under proper medical conditions. He suggested that claims be tested at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where the act could be scientifically confirmed.

“Anyone who says they can perform miracles should be punished unless they can demonstrate it clearly under medical supervision,” Kuti said. He added that the miracle should be repeatable in front of doctors. For example, a claim of restoring sight should involve a verifiable case that can be confirmed by medical experts—not just stories shared online or in churches.

Kuti went further, saying anyone who fails to prove their claims should face strict consequences. “A law should be made to ensure no one is allowed to perform miracles, and anyone caught claiming to perform one should be sent to jail. The only exception is if it can be proven at LUTH,” he stated. He added that repeatable miracles should be tested on multiple people, and that those unable to prove their claims should face severe punishment.
