Senate Confirms Icpc Chairman

The Senate Committee on Finance has issued a warrant of arrest for the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, citing his repeated failure to honour multiple invitations to appear before the panel.

The decision was taken on Thursday during a budget defence session involving the Federal Ministry of Finance and its agencies. Senate Finance Committee Chairman, Sani Musa, accused Magaji of persistently ignoring summons and sending junior officers in his place.

“We have issues with the reconciliation of CAC’s revenue, but each time we summoned him, he would send a junior officer,” Musa said.

Committee member Orji Uzor Kalu urged that the matter be escalated to President Bola Tinubu for possible removal of Magaji, describing the repeated non-compliance as disrespect to the Senate and a threat to legislative oversight.

Another member, Adams Oshiomhole, recommended that the Senate withhold approval of any 2026 budget allocation to the CAC until Magaji personally appears and suggested barring the commission from spending its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without prior National Assembly approval.

The committee endorsed the proposals, signalling a tightening of legislative scrutiny over the CAC’s finances, particularly regarding unresolved revenue reconciliation issues.
