The Senate has approved an extension of the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
The bill was passed on Tuesday after the Senate considered and approved its clauses.
The bill, sponsored by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, seeks to amend the 2025 Appropriation Act to allow the capital budget to remain in operation until December 31, 2026.
Leading the debate, Bamidele said the extension was necessary because the implementation of capital projects under the 2025 budget had not progressed as expected, despite the release of funds to ministries, departments and agencies.
He said the proposed extension would provide additional time for the government to complete outstanding capital projects.
The bill, cited as SB 1067, is titled “An Act to Amend the Appropriations (Repeal and Enactment) Act, 2025, to Extend the Capital Component of the 2025 Appropriation Act to 31st December 2026 and for Related Matters.”
