The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, used the opportunity to outline his vision for building an inclusive humanitarian ecosystem guided by impartiality and independence.

He assured lawmakers that his focus would be on fostering collaboration, fairness, and efficiency within the humanitarian sector to better serve vulnerable populations across the country.

Senators, after asking a few questions, expressed satisfaction with his qualifications and capacity to serve. The chamber thereafter asked him to “take a bow and go,” completing the confirmation process.

President Tinubu had earlier written to the Senate seeking Doro’s screening and confirmation in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The request, read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was given prompt consideration and referred to the Committee of the Whole.

Doro’s nomination followed the emergence of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.
