Published SELCAN MINER’

MathewteghaBLOG caught up with the publisher of El-spicebooks and event organizer; the
Executive Director of El-spice Media, Victor Prince Dickson, with a view to
provide deeper insight to the book launch.

This is his response:

“ To begin
with, I will like to say that this event immediately after the trade fair, is a
proof that Peace is finally  returned to
Jos, therefore gone are the days when people use the excuse of Insecurity to
tarnish the image of Jos.  It is a pity
that we underestimate the place and role of Jos in the larger scheme of things:
Nigeria in Particular. I will like to say that despite its many challenges,
Jos, holds the key to the political and socio-economic recovery of Nigeria,
because, it is a microcosm of the Nigerian character with all its beauty and
ugliness.

Here in Jos
or anchored to Jos, you will find men and women who played or are playing
critical roles in the evolution of Nigeria as it is now and as it may become in
years to come. Unfortunately, most of these people, especially the good ones
seem to be keeping very low profiles. What that entails is that, we are
breeding successive generation of ignorant populace; citizens who do not know
where we came from, how we got here and where we are going to. If this
continues, a bleak future is inevitable.

Victor Prince Dickson

Publishing
Selcan Miner
, for us, is a way of halting this self inflicted disaster of
ignorance, because, this is one man who rose from a shepherd boy in the high
lands of Langtang to become an Elder statesman and played critical roles in the
making of Northern Nigeria and the Middle-Belt. His experience covers,
Administration, Business, Politics and Religion. With this kind of story, we
hope to provide a model to the younger generation; beyond telling them, we hope
to show home grown examples of success. A kind of ‘Made in Nigeria Inspiration’ and most importantly move from a
damaging oral history to a documented one.

Yes, I
understand the concerns, Nigerians don’t read, why bother to publish. But as an
expert of the knowledge economy I can tell you for sure that those who don’t
read are going to become the new ‘slaves’ in political and socioeconomic
matters. On this note, it is a personal choice to read and be free or to stay
ignorant in chains. The choice is really personal. Whichever divide you belong
to, one thing is sure, this autobiography is a game changer. ”
