Veteran Nigerian singer Charly Boy surprised guests with a dramatic presentation while celebrating the 89th birthday of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Obasanjo, who turned 89 on March 5, 2026, marked the occasion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, where friends, associates, and dignitaries gathered to celebrate the elder statesman.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, Charly Boy, 75, documented his entrance at the event dressed in a formal suit while carrying a large gold gift box balanced on his head.

The singer approached the high table where Obasanjo was seated and carefully placed the box before the former president. Obasanjo then opened the gift, revealing a towel bearing the inscription “Baba 89 from Charly Boy”.

After the presentation, the two exchanged a warm handshake. In a moment that drew laughter from guests, the former president went a step further by planting a kiss on Charly Boy’s head.

In the caption accompanying the video, the singer spoke about his growing admiration for Obasanjo and described how their relationship has strengthened over time.

According to him, the bond sometimes reminds him of his late father, who was also a friend of the former president.

Charly Boy said the celebration was filled with laughter, greetings, and interactions among influential guests, noting that the atmosphere changed when Obasanjo entered the hall.

Reflecting on the moment he presented the gift, the singer said he chose to carry it “village-boy style” by balancing it on his head as a gesture of respect mixed with his usual dramatic flair.

He added that the highlight of the moment came when Obasanjo kissed him on the head, an act that sparked laughter across the hall.

Charly Boy also noted that celebrations like the event go beyond cake or speeches, saying they are about honouring lives that have witnessed history and endured many challenges.
