Security operatives have taken control of the surroundings of the Rivers State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt ahead of the lawmakers’ resumption under Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
According to Channels TV, Amaewhule issued the notice for the sitting on Monday morning. This comes days after the Supreme Court ruled that the Amaewhule-led faction and other elected members of the House should resume legislative activities without obstruction.
On Monday morning, multiple squads of policemen and operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, were observed at the Assembly Complex.
Although it is unclear what Monday’s plenary is about, it may not be unconnected to issues about local government administration in Rivers State.
