A Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Abuja, Haruna Yusuf Abba, has called on citizens to take collective responsibility for security and support efforts aimed at tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violence.
Abba, in a statement, said the protection of lives and property should not be politicised or turned into a subject of comparison, stressing that citizens could contribute to security in different ways.
According to him, some citizens contribute through prayers and encouragement of government, while others provide useful intelligence and information to security agencies and relevant authorities.
“No leader wishes to see his people killed or subjected to hardship,” Abba said.
He described terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, conflict and other forms of violence as challenges that require collective action, warning that some individuals could continue to benefit from the suffering of others if the issues were not confronted.
Abba also stressed that terrorism had no religious or ethnic identity, calling on citizens to avoid divisions and the blame game in responding to security challenges.
“The blame game is over. Unite, support the government within your capacity, and contribute whatever is within your reach,” he said.
He urged citizens to work together with government and security stakeholders to develop new approaches to addressing insecurity, noting that meaningful progress would remain difficult without collective commitment.
Abba further called for those responsible for acts of violence and criminality to be exposed and brought to justice.
He concluded by expressing support for Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, with the prayer: “May Governor Mutfwang succeed.”
Abba’s remarks come amid ongoing security concerns in parts of Plateau State and renewed calls for greater collaboration between government, security agencies, communities and citizens in tackling violence.
