Search for Common Ground Trains Over 30 Media Stakeholders in Jos Plateau

In tandem with the mission to transform how individuals, organizations and governments deal with conflicts, Search For Common Ground a Non-Proft organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict organized a 5day Journalism Training to build the capacity of media actors on the Plateau.

The program was held from 21st to 25th September at the Crespan Appartments hall as part of the Media For Peace Project launched earlire in February. (HERE)

Local media outlets in Jos were identified through the OCAT (Organizational Capacity Assessment Tool), and provided with tailored capacity-building support (physical capacity) and Common Ground Journalism Training based on recommendations of the capacity building assessment.

The training was focused on the provision of basic professional learning to improve basic understanding of promoting conflict transformative and non-partisan narratives. Similarly, the Common Ground Journalism training helped media stakeholders understand how failure to uphold the core principles of peaceful journalism can result in increased violence and exacerbate tensions and divisions within their communities and beyond.

Other specialized forms of training such as Administration and Human resource management, Corporate
Finance, Monitoring and evaluation was also addressed to help build the organizational structure the media outfits in Jos.
