Lagos State Governor and Visitor to Lagos State University (LASU), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the university’s new Vice-Chancellor.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso. Badejo will succeed Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure is coming to an end.
Badejo, a professor of Guidance and Counselling, was born on August 4, 1962. She obtained her Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the LASU Law, 2004, as amended. According to the university, Badejo has been appointed as the institution’s 10th substantive Vice-Chancellor.
LASU said her appointment marks the beginning of a new leadership phase for the institution as Olatunji-Bello concludes her tenure. The outgoing Vice-Chancellor assumed office in September 2021 and is retiring after completing her five-year term.
Badejo is scheduled to formally assume office on September 20, 2026, for a single five-year term.
Her appointment comes as LASU prepares for a leadership transition following the conclusion of Olatunji-Bello’s administration, which the university has credited with developments in academic programmes, research, infrastructure, quality assurance and staff and student welfare.
Badejo is expected to lead the university into its next phase of development when she assumes office later this month.
